Appointment of the new Vice-President of the Court of Appeal (Civil)

Lady Justice Gloster has been appointed as Vice-President of the Court of Appeal (Civil) by the Lord Chief Justice, Lord Thomas of Cwmgiedd, following consultation with the Lord Chancellor. The appointment will take effect from 7 December on the retirement of Lord Justice Moore-Bick.


The Rt Hon Lady Justice Elizabeth Gloster was called to the Bar (Inner Temple) in 1971 and became a Bencher in 1992.  She was appointed as a QC in 1989.  From 1993-2004 she was a Judge of the Courts of Appeal of Jersey and Guernsey.  She was a Recorder from 1995 until 2004.  She became a High Court Judge, allocated to the Queen’s Bench Division, and appointed to sit in the Commercial Court, in April 2004.  She was appointed as the Judge in charge of the Commercial Court and Mercantile Courts from 2010-2012 and was appointed as a Lady Justice of Appeal on 9 April 2013.
