Appointment of the new Senior Presiding Judge


Following his appointment as the Investigatory Powers Commissioner, Lord Justice Fulford will stand down as Senior Presiding Judge on 31 March 2017.  The Lord Chief Justice, with the agreement of the Lord Chancellor, has decided to appoint Lady Justice Macur as the new Senior Presiding Judge with effect from 3 April 2017.

Lady Justice (Julia) Macur was called to the Bar, Lincoln’s Inn, 1979, Bencher, 2005; Midland and Oxford Circuit.  She was appointed Queen’s Counsel in 1998; a Recorder, 1999 to 2005.  She was appointed a Judge of the High Court of Justice, Family Division, on 3 October 2005.  She was appointed Presiding Judge on the Midland Circuit, 2007 to 2011.  In July 2013 she was appointed to the Court of Appeal.

Lady Justice Macur was appointed Deputy Senior Presiding Judge with effect from 1 January 2016.  It had been envisaged that she would take up appointment as Senior Presiding Judge on 1 January 2018.  However, her appointment has been brought forward in the light of Lord Justice Fulford’s new role as the Investigatory Powers Commissioner.
