High Court Judge Appointment

The Queen has been pleased to approve the appointment of a Justice of the High Court. The appointment will take effect from 22 October 2018. It is anticipated that a further two appointments will be announced in the coming months.

The candidate approved as a High Court Judge is Clive Freedman QC.

This appointment will fill a vacancy in the High Court following elevations to the Court of Appeal and confirmed retirements. For further information regarding the number of applicants and number of recommended candidates, please see the JAC website:


The Queen has been pleased to approve the appointment of Clive Freedman QC to be a Justice of the High Court with effect from 22 October 2018.

The Lord Chief Justice will assign Clive Freedman QC to the Queen’s Bench Division.

Clive Freedman QC, aged 62 will be known as The Honourable Mr Justice Freedman. He was Called to the Bar (M) in 1978 and took Silk in 1997. He was appointed as an Assistant Recorder in 1997, as a Recorder in 2000 and as a Deputy High Court Judge in 2003.
