High Court Judge Appointment (Queen’s Bench Division): Goose

The Queen has been pleased to approve the appointment of His Honour Judge Julian Nicholas Goose QC to be a Justice of the High Court with effect from 2 October 2017 consequential to the retirement of Dame Laura Mary Cox.

The Lord Chief Justice will assign His Honour Judge Julian Nicholas Goose to the Queen’s Bench Division.

His Honour Judge Julian Nicholas Goose, aged 56, will be known as The Honourable Mr Justice Goose. He was called to the Bar (L) in 1984 and took Silk in 2002. He was appointed as an Assistant Recorder in 1999, as a Recorder in 2000. He was authorised to sit as a Deputy High Court Judge in 2010 and appointed as a Senior Circuit Judge in 2013.

Dame Laura Mary Cox, aged 65, was called to the Bar (Inner Temple) in 1975, took Silk in 1994 and was elected a Bencher in 1999. She was appointed a Recorder in 1995, was the British Member of the International Labour Organisation Committee of Experts from 1998 to 2013, and a member of the Council of JUSTICE until 2002. She was appointed a Judge of the High Court (Queen’s Bench Division) in 2002, was Chair of the Equal Treatment Advisory Committee (Judicial Studies Board) from 2003 to 2011 and Chair of the Judicial Skills courses at the Judicial College until 2016. She was appointed as the Honorary President of the Association of Women Barristers in 2005, and as Vice-President of the UK Association of Women Judges in 2013.
