High Court Judge Appointment (Queen’s Bench Division): Lavender

The Queen has been pleased to approve the appointment of Mr Nicholas Lavender QC to be a Justice of the High Court with effect from 3 October 2016 on the retirement of Mr Justice Cooke.

The Lord Chief Justice will assign Mr Nicholas Lavender to the Queen’s Bench Division.

Nicholas Lavender, aged 51, will be known as The Honourable Mr Justice Lavender. He was called to the Bar (I) in 1989 and took Silk in 2008. He was appointed as a Recorder in 2010 and a Deputy High Court Judge in 2013.

Sir Jeremy Lionel Cooke, aged 67 was admitted as a Solicitor in 1973, called to the Bar (L) in 1976 and took Silk in 1990. He was appointed an Assistant Recorder in 1994 and a Recorder in 1998. He was appointed a Judge of the High Court (Queen’s Bench Division) in 2001, a Judge of the Commercial Court from 2003 to 2012 and Judge in Charge of the Commercial Court from 2012 to 2014. He was appointed Presiding Judge of the South Eastern Circuit from 2007 to 2011 and President of the East Sussex Magistrates’ Association from 2009 to 2013.
