High Court Judge Appointment (Queen’s Bench Division): Nicklin

The Queen has been pleased to approve the appointment of Matthew James Nicklin QC to be a Justice of the High Court with effect from 2 October 2017 consequential to the elevation of Sir Timothy Victor Holroyde to the Court of Appeal.

The Lord Chief Justice will assign Mr Matthew James Nicklin to the Queen’s Bench Division.

Notes to editors

Matthew James Nicklin, aged 46, will be known as The Honourable Mr Justice Nicklin. He was called to the Bar (L) in 1993 and took Silk in 2013. He was appointed as a Recorder in 2009 and authorised to sit as a Deputy High Court Judge in 2017.

Sir Timothy Victor Holroyde, aged 62, was called to the bar (Middle Temple) in 1977 and took Silk in 1996. He was appointed as a Recorder in 1997 and as a High Court Judge in the Queen’s Bench Division in January 2009. He was a Presiding Judge on the Northern Circuit from 2012 until 2015 and appointed as a Lord Justice of Appeal in 2017.
