High Court Judge Appointment (Queen’s Bench Division): O’Farrell

The Queen has been pleased to approve the appointment of Ms Finola Mary O’Farrell QC to be a Justice of the High Court with effect from 17 October 2016 consequential to the retirement of Sir Roderic Wood.

The Lord Chief Justice will assign Ms O’Farrell to the Queen’s Bench Division.

Finola Mary O’Farrell, aged 55, will be known as The Honourable Mrs Justice O’Farrell. She was called to the Bar (I) in 1983 and took Silk in 2002. She was appointed as a Recorder in 2007.

Sir Roderic Wood, aged 65 was called to the Bar (M) in 1974, took Silk in 1993 and elected a Bencher in 2001. He was a Member of the Committee for the Family Law Bar Association from 1988 to 2002, a Member of the Bar Council from 1993 to 1995, and a Member of the Professional Conduct Committee of the Bar from 1993 to 2000 (Vice Chairman from 1997 to 1998 and Chairman from 1999 to 2000). He was authorised to sit as a Deputy High Court Judge (Family Division) in 1995 and a Recorder in 1997. He was appointed a Circuit Judge in 2002, Family Division Liaison Judge for Wales from 2007 to 2012 and a Judge of the High Court (Family Division) in 2004.
