High Court Judge Appointment (Queen’s Bench Division): Yip

The Queen has been pleased to approve the appointment of Mrs Amanda Louise Yip QC to be a Justice of the High Court with effect from 2 October 2017 consequential to the retirement of Sir Wyn Lewis Williams.

The Lord Chief Justice will assign Mrs Amanda Louise Yip to the Queen’s Bench Division.

 Amanda Louise Yip, aged 48, will be known as The Honourable Mrs Justice Yip. She was called to the Bar (G) in 1991 and took Silk in 2011. She was appointed as a Recorder in 2008 and authorised to sit as a Deputy High Court Judge in 2013.

Sir Wyn Williams, aged 65, was called to the Bar (Inner Temple) in 1974, took Silk in 1992 and was elected a Bencher in 2007. He was appointed a Recorder in 1992, a Senior Circuit Judge (Specialist Chancery Circuit Judge for the Wales and Chester Circuit) in 2004 and a Judge of the High Court (Queen’s Bench Division) in 2007. He was appointed Presiding Judge for the Wales Circuit from 2012 to 2015 and Deputy Chairman for the Boundary Commission for Wales and Chairman of the Lord Chancellor’s Standing Committee on Welsh Language in 2012. He was appointed Chairman of the Wales Training Committee, Judicial College in 2013.
