The Queen has been pleased to approve the appointment of two Justices of the High Court. These appointments will take effect from 1 October 2019. It is anticipated that a further eight appointments will be announced in the coming months.
The candidates approved as High Court Judges are William Trower QC and Karen Steyn QC.
These appointments will fill vacancies in the High Court following elevations to the Court of Appeal and confirmed retirements. William Trower QC
William Spencer Philip Trower QC, aged 59 will be known as The Honourable Mr Justice Trower. He was Called to the Bar (L) in 1983 and took Silk in 2001. He was appointed as a Deputy High Court Judge sitting in the High Court Chancery Division in 2007.
He will take up appointment on 1 October 2019 consequential to the retirement of Mr Justice Peter Smith.
The Lord Chief Justice will assign William Trower QC to the Chancery Division.
Karen Steyn QC
Karen Margaret Steyn QC, aged 48 will be known as The Honourable Mrs Justice Steyn. She was Called to the Bar (M) in 1995 and took Silk in 2014. She was appointed as a Deputy High Court Judge sitting in the High Court Queens Bench Division in 2016.
She will take up appointment on 1 October 2019 consequential to the retirement of Mr Justice King.
The Lord Chief Justice will assign Karen Steyn QC to the Queen’s Bench Division.
