The Honourable Sir Charles Peter Lawford Openshaw retires from the High Court (Queen’s Bench) with effect from 22 December 2017.

Notes to editors 

Sir Charles Openshaw (70) was called to the Bar (I) in 1970, took Silk in 1991 and was elected a Bencher in 2003. He was appointed an Assistant Recorder in 1985, a Recorder in 1988, a Senior Circuit Judge in 1999, the Honorary Recorder of Preston from 1999 to 2005 and a Judge of the High Court (Queen’s Bench) in 2005. He was appointed a Member of the Criminal Procedure Rules Committee in 2005, Presiding Judge of the North Eastern Circuit from 2009 to 2012 and the Director of Criminal Training at the Judicial College in 2013.
