HMCTS is recruiting five non-legal members of the Special Immigration Appeals Commission (SIAC) who will also be able to sit as non-legal members of the Proscribed Organisations Appeal Commission (POAC) and of the Pathogens Access Appeal Commission (PAAC).
SlAC is a superior court of record. It is independent from government. Any appeals from SIAC are to the Court of Appeal. The role of SIAC is to scrutinise Home Office decisions to exclude or to deport a person from the UK or to refuse asylum/immigration applications, to deprive a person of British citizenship, or to refuse an application or naturalisation, when those decisions are made, wholly, or partly, on the interests of national security.
POAC and PAAC are also independent. Appeals from their decisions are also to the Court of Appeal.
The closing date for applications is 23:59 on Wednesday, 26 August 2020. Completed applications should be emailed to: SIAC_Lay_Member_Recruitment@Justice.gov.uk
