|Coroner|News

The Lord Chief Justice, after consultation with the Lord Chancellor, has nominated Sir John Saunders to act as Coroner to undertake the coroner investigations, including the inquests, into the deaths arising from the Manchester Arena terror attack.

Sir John is a retired High Court judge.  He has significant experience trying terrorism cases as the Recorder of Birmingham and as the Presiding Judge on the South Eastern Circuit from 2009 to 2012.

Sir John will assume responsibility for the investigations and inquests immediately.  A full legal and administrative team is in the process of being formed in order to support the Inquest process. A Pre-Inquest Review hearing will be conducted in October.
