Chamber President of The Upper Tribunal and President of The Employment Appeal Tribunal

The Lord Chief Justice of England and Wales, the Right Honourable The Lord Thomas of Cwmgiedd, has appointed The Honourable Mrs Justice Simler to be the President of the Employment Appeals Tribunal with effect from 1 January 2016, and The Senior President of Tribunals, the Right Honourable Lord Justice Ryder, has appointed The Honourable Mr Justice Holgate to be a President of the Upper Tribunal (to preside over the Lands Chamber) with effect 1 January 2016.

Dame Ingrid Simler (52) was called to the Bar (Inner Temple) in 1987 and was appointed a QC in 2006. She was appointed as a Recorder in October 2002, and was authorised to sit as a Deputy High Court Judge and in the Administrative Court in February 2010. She was appointed to the High Court, Queen’s Bench Division in October 2013, and was approved to sit as a judge of the EAT in 2013. The appointment of President of the Employment Appeal Tribunal is for three years from 1 January 2016 to 31 December 2018.

Sir David Holgate (59) was called to the Bar (Middle Temple) in 1978 and was appointed a QC in 1997. He was appointed as a Recorder in March 2002, and was authorised to sit as a Deputy High Court Judge and in the Administrative Court in April 2008. He was appointed to the High Court, Queen’s Bench Division in December 2014. The appointment of President of the Upper Tribunal (Lands Chamber) is for three years from 1 January 2016 to 31 December 2018.
