Senior Circuit Judge: Death in Service


The Lord Chief Justice, Lord Thomas of Cwmgiedd, and the Lord Chancellor, the Right Honourable Michael Gove MP, were saddened to learn of the death of His Honour Judge David Elgan Hugh Edwards DL on 28 January 2016.

David Elgan Hugh Edwards DL (72) was called to the Bar (G) in 1967 and elected as a Bencher in 2004. He was appointed as a Deputy Circuit Judge in 1978, a Recorder in 1983, a Circuit Judge in 1989 and Honorary Recorder of Chester in 1997. He was appointed a Legal Member of the Mental Health Review Tribunal (Restricted Patients Panel) in 1995 and Senior Circuit Judge and Deputy Lieutenant of Cheshire in 2002. He was appointed President of the Council of Her Majesty’s Circuit Judges in 2005, Resident Judge for Cheshire in 2006 and President of the Cheshire Branch of the Magistrates’ Association and a Member of the Courts Board in 2010.
