The Queen has appointed Paul Bernard Matthews to be a Specialist Civil Circuit Judge on the advice of the Lord Chancellor, the Right Honourable Elizabeth Truss MP and the Lord Chief Justice of England and Wales, the Right Honourable The Lord Thomas of Cwmgiedd.
The Lord Chief Justice has deployed him to the South Western Circuit, based at Bristol Civil and Family Justice Centre with effect from 13 February 2017.

Paul Bernard Matthews, aged 61, will be known as His Honour Judge Paul Matthews. He was admitted as a Solicitor in 1987. He was appointed as a Deputy Coroner in 1994, as HM Coroner for the City of London in 2002 (known as Senior Coroner from 2013), as a Deputy Chancery Master in 2008, as a Recorder in 2010 and as a Chancery Master in 2015.
