Committal for Contempt of Court in Open Court at the County Court sitting at Huntingdon: Lakatos

|Contempt of Court

In the Peterborough Crown Court
Sitting at Huntingdon Law Courts
Case No: S20160102

In the matter of:   Mr David Lakatos

Pursuant to paragraph 13 of Practice Direction: Committal for Contempt of Court – Open Court

In relation to [S20160102] on 21 April 2016, at the Crown Court sitting at Huntingdon His Honour Judge Cooper sentenced David Lakatos, to an immediate custodial sentence of one month for contempt of court, consecutive to other sentences imposed the same day. The basis of that sentence was that when the defendant was remanded in custody at an earlier hearing on 9 March 2013 at the same court he damaged the dock by shaking the windows and damaging the secure seating. This brought the ceiling panels down endangering both himself and the dock staff.

This behaviour was dealt with as a contempt in the face of the court. The defendant apologised to the court at an interim hearing and admitted his guilt of the offence. Sentence was then adjourned at his request to enable all outstanding matters to be sentenced together at the hearing on 21 April 2016.
