Assistant Judge Advocate General – Death in Service
The Lady Chief Justice of England and Wales, the Right Honourable the Baroness Carr of Walton-on-the-Hill, and the Lord Chancellor, the Right Honourable David Lammy MP, were saddened to learn of the death of Assistant Judge Advocate General Andrew Smith MBE TD on 29 November 2025.
Background information
Judge Advocate Andrew Smith MBE TD was called to the Bar (Middle Temple) in 1991. He was appointed as a Fee-paid Immigration Judge of the Asylum and Immigration Tribunal (now known as a Fee-paid Judge of the First-tier Tribunal (Immigration and Asylum)) in 2006 and a Recorder in 2020. He was appointed an Assistant Judge Advocate General in 2021.
