Complaints

What should I do if I have a complaint?

If you are unhappy with a judgment or decision, there is more information in the Appeals process section.

If you wish to complain about a member of HM Courts and Tribunals Service (HMCTS), or the facilities at a court or tribunals you have visited, please follow the HMCTS Complaints procedure (external link).

If you wish to complain about the conduct of a member of the judiciary, you should make your complaint to the independent Judicial Conduct Investigations Office (JCIO) (external link). Complaints should be made using the JCIO’s online complaints portal. The JCIO will consider accepting complaints in alternative formats from those who are unable to use the online portal due to a health condition or a disability.

Please note that neither HMCTS nor the judiciary deals with complaints against professional legal representatives, such as solicitors, barristers and chartered legal executives. These are dealt with by the Bar Standards Board (external link) (for Barristers), CILEx Regulation (external link) (for chartered legal executives) and The Law Society (external link) (for solicitors).
