The Judicial Appointments Commission (JAC) will be launching a selection exercise on 13 March 2024 to recruit 200 fee paid disability qualified Tribunal members of the First-tier Tribunal, Social Entitlement Chamber (Social Security and Child Support Tribunal).

Pre-application seminar

This seminar is organised by Judicial Office and will take place online via Microsoft Teams on Tuesday 27 February from 5-5.30pm for those interested in applying for appointment.

The seminar aims to help applicants be better prepared to make an application and receive up-to-date guidance and advice on the JAC’s selection process. As well as a JAC representative, you will also hear from a Regional Tribunal Judge and a Disability Qualified Member to explain the role.

Who should attend?

A person is eligible for appointment if they are a person, other than a registered medical practitioner, who is experienced in dealing with the physical or mental needs of disabled persons because they work with disabled persons in a professional or voluntary capacity; or are themselves disabled.

Applications are particularly welcome from under-represented groups (women, ethnic minority candidates, disabled candidates and solicitors). Training is provided for all appointed members.
