Judicial expenses
The tables available to download below outline the expenses claims submitted by the Lord Chief Justice, Master of the Rolls, Heads of Division, Senior President of Tribunals as well as Court of Appeal and High Court judges.
Travel and accommodation costs for judges arise from the requirement that judges may sit at several courts in a circuit (there are a total of six circuits for England and Wales) or have a leadership role that requires them to travel across a wide geographical area to visit courts.
The level of costs recouped by each Judge reflect the work, numbers of sittings and the locations he or she has been required to attend.
Payments are made in accordance with rates agreed by the Ministry of Justice. In some instances, expenses paid to a judge may include arrears from a period prior to the reporting period.
