Practice Statement: Authorisation of staff to exercise judicial functions and delegation of authorisation function
The Senior President of Tribunals has issued a Practice Statement confirming that his previous Practice Statements relating to the authorisation of staff to carry out judicial functions remain in effect now that Schedule 5(3) Tribunals Courts and Enforcement Act 2007 has come into force.

Practice Statement authorising legally qualified members of staff in the Upper Tribunal (Immigration and Asylum Chamber) to carry out functions of a judicial nature
The Senior President of Tribunals has issued a new Practice Statement authorising legally qualified members of staff in the Immigration and Asylum Chamber of the Upper Tribunal to carry out judicial functions, which replaces the Practice Statement entitled: ‘Immigration and Asylum Chamber of the Upper Tribunal delegation of functions to staff on or after 9 December 2013’.
The new Practice Statement widens the functions delegated to UTIAC lawyers and amends the definition of ‘legally qualified’. Please see the document attached below.
