Committal for Contempt of Court

In Open Court at the High Court of Justice (Chancery Division)

Pursuant to paragraph 13 of the Practice Direction: Committal for Contempt of Court – Open Court dated 26 March 2015

In relation to claim no. BR-2010-007360, on 26 July 2023 at the Royal Courts of Justice in London, Mr Justice Richard Smith sentenced Mr Neill Matthew Carter to a custodial sentence of 18 months for contempt of Court, less the time already spent by him in custody for this matter. The basis of the sentence was that Mr Carter committed 11 breaches of undertakings he gave to the Court on 15 June 2020, as reflected in the Order made that day by Deputy ICC Judge Schaffer. Those undertakings were given in the course of a hearing for his examination as a bankrupt held pursuant to section 366(1) of the Insolvency Act 1986 and required him to provide certain specific information and documentation concerning his assets.
