Judicial and Legal Diversity Board

The Judicial and Legal Diversity Board launched on 21 May 2026 and is co-chaired by the Lady Chief Justice and Lord Chancellor. The board builds on an ongoing commitment to increase diversity in the judiciary, underpinned by the Judicial Diversity and Inclusion Strategy 2026-2030.

Recognising that the judiciary is a pipeline profession, the board brings together organisations from across the legal sector to ensure that there are professionals with the right skills and specialisms to become the lawyers (and ultimately judges) that our future justice system will need.

It signifies a commitment to support greater collaboration to collectively increase diversity across the judiciary and legal professions.

Membership includes:

  • Lord Chancellor (Co-Chair of the Board)
  • Lady Chief Justice (Co-Chair of the Board), supported by a member of senior judiciary
  • Chair of the Judicial Appointments Commission (JAC)
  • Chair of the Bar Council
  • President of the Law Society
  • President of the Chartered Institute of Legal Executives (CILEx)
  • Chair of the Legal Services Board (LSB)
  • Chief Executive of Judicial Office
