Lawrie & others –v- Cuadrilla Bowland Ltd & others

The appeal is against the decision by HHJ Pelling QC dated 3 September 2019 that the respondents (A3-A5) were in contempt of court and an appeal against the imposition of sanctions. HHJ Pelling QC committed Katrina Lawrie to prison for a period of two months plus four weeks, suspended for a period of two years. Both Lee Walsh and Christopher Wilson were committed to prison for a period of four weeks, suspended for a period of two years. The injunction breached was made in reference to named persons and “persons unknown”.

The Respondent/Claimant (‘Cuadrilla’) is an oil and gas company that is/was engaged in fracking at a site just of Preston New Road near to Little Plumpton in Lancashire. A3-A5 are three environmental protesters who live close to the Preston New Road site and engage in regular protests against fracking on the PNR site.

This appeal is linked to a permission application in respect to a variation to the injunction order made by HHJ Pelling QC.
