Solicitors Regulation Authority Limited (respondent) V Khan & Ors (appellant)

Tuesday 27 – Thursday 29 February 2024

By appellant’s notice filed on 10 May 2023, the appellant, Soophia Khan, appeals, with the permission of Mr Justice Leech (insofar as required), his order of 10 March 2023, whereby he dismissed the first defendant’s application to re-open or set aside the contempt liability judgment, committed the first respondent to 12 months imprisonment for the contempts and made consequential orders.

The background to the dispute relates to the intervention by the Solicitors Regulation Authority in Ms Khan’s practice following suspected dishonesty at the firm. These proceedings related to the SRA’s application to commit the Respondents for contempt of court for breach of the order made by Miles J on 27 April 2022. It was alleged that the orders for delivery up of certain items in their possession or control or, if unable to comply, to serve a witness statement setting out the details of the non-compliance were not complied with by the first respondent.
