By appellant’s notice filed on 18 January 2024, the Defendant/Appellant seeks appeal the order of Mr Justice Green, sitting in the High Court, Financial List, dated 16 January 2024, whereby he dismissed or dismissed in part the strike out applications in relation to the “Brutus Pleadings” and the “Maxpower Pleadings” and made consequential costs orders.

Background – This was the hearing of a Case Management Conference in respect to four claims brought by a total of 230 Claimants against the Defendant, Standard Chartered plc under sections 90 and 90A and Schedule 10A to the Financial Services and Markets Act 2000. It was directed that the claims be managed and tried together. The Claimants allege that the Defendant made untrue and misleading market statements in 3 prospectuses and some 45 other items of published information over a period of 12 years relating to non-compliance with sanctions against Iran, financial crime control failures and alleged bribery by members of the Group. The Claimants are institutional investors in the Defendant and say that they suffered loss as a result.
