Mrs Justice McGowan and Lady Justice Carr discuss the Rule of Law
The rule of law is a concept fundamental to our daily lives, but many people have little idea of what it means in practice.
Over 1,000 people have signed up to our Massive Open Online Course (MOOC) in collaboration with the University of Law to learn more about it. The free three-week course explains what the rule of law is and how judges help to uphold it.

Lady Justice Carr refers to several key tenets, such as equality for all and access to justice, stating that the rule of law ‘underpins a fair, democratic and open society.’
