Update from the Lord Chief Justice regarding non-attendance at court by members of the Bar
Lord Burnett of MaldonLord Chief JusticeNews
The Lord Chief Justice yesterday issued a statement (external link, opens in a new tab) in relation to the action being taken by some members of the Criminal Bar Association. It drew attention to the warning given by the CBA to its members that non-attendance might be in breach of the Code of Conduct and advised judges that such non-attendance should be referred to the Senior Presiding Judge’s Office for consideration as to whether to involve the regulator rather than to the Bar Standards Board.
The Bar Standards Board has issued its own statement. Judges, and others with an interest in this issue, may find it useful to read that statement (external link, opens in a new tab) as well.
For completeness, the original explanation of the CBA to its members can be found here (external link, opens in a new tab).
