Vacancy: Legal Members of the Education Tribunal for Wales
The Judicial Appointments Commission has been asked to identify eight candidates to recommend for the post of Legal Members for the Education Tribunal for Wales.
Tribunal hearings are conducted both remotely, via video conference, and in person across all regions of Wales. Candidates must be willing and able to hear cases throughout Wales, travel independently, and stay overnight where required.
The Tribunal hears appeals relating to a child or young person’s special educational needs and claims brought for disability discrimination under the Equality Act 2010.
Candidates for this post must be a barrister or solicitor with five years’ post qualification experience. In addition, candidates must have at least three years’ knowledge and experience as an advocate or judge in Education Law, specifically Special Educational Needs and Disability (SEND), and/or Additional Learning Needs (ALN). This must be recent (within the last five years), active experience as an advocate (solicitor or barrister) or as a judge.
