His Honour Judge Paul Daniel Batty QC retires as a Circuit Judge with effect from 1 July 2022.

Background information

His Honour Judge Batty QC (69) was called to the Bar (Lincoln’s Inn) in 1975, took Silk in 1995 and elected a Bencher in 2003. He was appointed an Assistant Recorder in 1991, a Recorder in 1994 and a Circuit Judge in 2003. He was the Resident Judge for Carlisle from 2007 to 2015 and the Honorary Recorder for Carlisle from 2012 to 2015. He was the Resident Judge and Honorary Recorder for York from 2015 to 2019. He was elected Freeman of the City of Carlisle in 2016.
