Circuit Bench Retirement: Mitchell

His Honour Judge Fergus Irvine Mitchell retires as a Circuit Judge with effect from 1 July 2014.

His Honour Judge Mitchell (67) was called to the Bar (G) in 1971. He was appointed an Assistant Recorder in 1989 and a Recorder in 1993. He was a Member of the General Council of the Bar from 1992 to 1995, a Member of the Professional Conduct Committee from 1993 to 1995 and a Member of the Bar Race Relations Committee from 1994 to 1995. He was appointed a Circuit Judge in 1996, Chairman of the Lord Chancellor’s Advisory Committee on Justices of the Peace for South West London from 2001 to 2010 and a Legal Member of the Mental Health Review Tribunal (Restricted Patients Panel) in 2001 (now known as Judge of the First Tier Tribunal (Health, Education and Social Care Chamber)).
