Court of Appeal: Retirement of Lord Justice McCombe

Lord Justice McCombe retires as Lord Justice of Appeal with effect from 27 January 2021. 

Background Information

Sir Richard George Bramwell McCombe (68) was called to the Bar (L) in 1975, took Silk in 1989 and was elected a Bencher in 1996 and Treasurer of the Inn in 2019. He was the second junior counsel to the Director-General of Fair Trading from 1982 to 1987 and served as first junior counsel from 1987 to 1989. He was appointed an Assistant Recorder in 1993, a Recorder in 1996 and a Deputy High Court judge in 1998. He served as Attorney General to the Duchy of Lancaster from 1996 to 2001 and was appointed a High Court Judge (Queen’s Bench) in 2001. From 2004 to 2007 he served as the Presiding Judge on the Northern Circuit. He was appointed as a Lord Justice of Appeal and made a Privy Counsellor in 2012.
