Lord Justice Patten retires as Lord Justice of Appeal with effect from 8 August 2020.

Sir Nicholas John Patten (70) was called to the Bar (L) in 1974, took Silk in 1988 and was elected a Bencher in 1997. He was Chairman of the Chancery Bar Association from 1997 to 1999 and appointed a Deputy High Court Judge in 1998 and a Judge of the High Court (Chancery Division) in 2000. He served as Vice-Chancellor of the County of Palatine of Lancaster from 2005 to 2008 and was appointed a Lord Justice of Appeal and made a Privy Counsellor in 2009.
