Circuit Bench Retirement: Burbidge KC
His Honour Judge James Michael Burbidge KC retires as a Circuit Judge with effect from 1 August 2026.
Background information
His Honour Judge Burbidge KC was called to the Bar (Lincoln’s Inn) in 1979, took Silk in 2003 and was elected as a Bencher in 2009. He was appointed an Assistant Recorder in 1999, a Recorder in 2000 and a Circuit Judge in 2011. He was authorised to sit in the Court of Appeal (Criminal Division) in 2015 and was a Course Director for Criminal Course Continuation Training at the Judicial College from 2015 to 2021. He served as the Resident Judge at Wolverhampton Crown Court and the Honorary Recorder of Wolverhampton from 2015 to 2020. He served as the Resident Judge at Worcester Crown Court and the Honorary Recorder of Worcester from 2020 to 2026 and was a Criminal Course Tutor at the Judicial College from 2021 to 2026.
