His Honour Judge Michael Kay KC DL retires as a Circuit Judge with effect from 2 April 2024.

Background information

His Honour Judge Kay KC DL was called to the Bar (Lincoln’s Inn) in 1981 and took Silk in 2002. He was appointed an Assistant Recorder in 1998, a Recorder in 2000 and a part-time Chairman of Employment Tribunals in 2001. He was appointed a Circuit Judge in 2004 and authorised to sit as a High Court Judge in 2007. He served as the Designated Civil Judge for   Bedfordshire and Hertfordshire from 2008 to 2013. He was appointed a Senior Circuit Judge and the Designated Civil Judge for Thames Valley, Bedfordshire and Hertfordshire from 2013 to 2014. He served as the Resident Judge at St Albans Crown Court from 2018 to 2022 and was appointed a Deputy Lieutenant of Hertfordshire in 2022.
