Lady Justice Julia Macur retires as a Lady Justice of Appeal with effect from 4 October 2025.

Background Information

Dame Julia Macur DBE was called to the Bar (Lincoln’s Inn) in 1979, took Silk in 1998 and was elected as a Bencher in 2005. She was appointed an Assistant Recorder in 1995, a Recorder in 1998 and authorised to sit as a High Court Judge in 2000 pursuant to the Senior Courts Act 1981. She was appointed a High Court Judge (Family Division) in 2005 and the Family Division Liaison Judge for the South Eastern Circuit in 2006. She served as the Presiding Judge on the Midland Circuit from 2007 to 2011 and was appointed the Senior Judicial Commissioner of the Judicial Appointments Commission (JAC) in 2013. She was appointed as a Lady Justice of Appeal and made a Privy Counsellor in 2013. She served as Deputy Senior Presiding Judge from 2016 and the Senior Presiding Judge for England and Wales from 2017 to 2019.
