Court of Appeal: Retirement of Lord Justice Irwin

Lord Justice Irwin retires as Lord Justice of Appeal with effect from 7 October 2020. 

Background Information 

Sir Stephen John Irwin (67) was called to the Bar (G) in 1976, took Silk in 1997 and was elected a Bencher in 2002. He was appointed a Recorder in 2000, Chairman of the Bar Council in 2004 and a High Court Judge (Queen’s Bench) in 2006. He was a Presiding Judge on the Northern Circuit from 2007 to 2012 and Chairman of the Special Immigration Appeals Commission from 2013 to 2015. He was appointed a Lord Justice of Appeal and made a Privy Counsellor in 2016.
