Lord Justice Tim Holroyde retires as a Lord Justice of Appeal with effect from 25 October 2025.

Background Information

Sir Tim Holroyde was called to the Bar (Middle Temple) in 1977, took Silk in 1996 and was elected as a Bencher in 2005. He was appointed an Assistant Recorder in 1994, a Recorder in 1997 and authorised to sit as a High Court Judge in 2008 pursuant to the Senior Courts Act 1981.  He was appointed a High Court Judge (Queen’s Bench Division, now King’s Bench Division) in 2009 and was Presiding Judge of the Northern Circuit between 2012 and 2015. He served as a Judicial Member of the Sentencing Council from 2015 to 2018 and in 2017 he was appointed as a Lord Justice of Appeal and made a Privy Counsellor. He served as Chair of the Sentencing Council from 2018 to 2022, and as a Judicial Member from 2022 to 2025. He was Vice-President of the Court of Appeal, Criminal Division from 2022 to 2025.
