High Court: Retirement of The Honourable Sir Nigel John Martin Teare

The Honourable Sir Nigel John Martin Teare retires from the High Court (Queen’s Bench) with effect from 1 October 2020.

Background information 

Sir Nigel Teare (68) was called to the Bar (L) in 1974, took Silk in 1991 and was elected a Bencher in 2004. He was appointed an Assistant Recorder in 1993, a Recorder in 1997 and an acting Deemster in the High Court of the Isle of Man and in the Staff of Government Division (Court of Appeal) from 2000 to 2006. He was appointed a Deputy High Court Judge in 2002, a Judge of the High Court (Queen’s Bench) in 2006 and nominated a Judge of the Commercial and Admiralty Courts in 2007. In 2011 he was nominated the Admiralty Judge and in 2013 he was appointed a Presiding Judge on the Western Circuit. He was appointed the Judge in Charge of the Commercial Court in 2017.
