High Court: Retirement of The Honourable Sir Peter Richard Lane

The Honourable Sir Peter Richard Lane retires as a Judge of the High Court (King’s Bench) with effect from 1 February 2024.

Background information

Sir Peter Lane was called to the Bar (Middle Temple) in 1976 and admitted as a Solicitor in 1985. He was appointed a part-time Immigration Adjudicator in 1996, an Immigration Judge in 2001 and Vice President of the Immigration Appeal Tribunal (now known as a Judge of the Upper Tribunal (Immigration and Asylum Chamber) in 2003. He was appointed a Legal Member of the Special Immigration Appeals Commission in 2005 and President of the First-tier Tribunal (General Regulatory Chamber) in 2014. He was authorised to sit as a High Court Judge in 2016 and appointed a High Court Judge of the King’s (formerly Queen’s) Bench in 2017. He was appointed President of the Upper Tribunal (Immigration and Asylum Chamber) in 2017 and was the Deputy Chair of the Boundary Commission for England from 2020 to 2023.
