Retirement of The Right Honourable Sir Julian Flaux, Chancellor of the High Court
The Right Honourable Sir Julian Flaux retires as the Chancellor of the High Court with effect from 1 November 2025.
Background information
The Rt. Hon Sir Julian Flaux was called to the Bar (Inner Temple) in 1978, took silk in 1994 and was elected a Bencher in 2002. He was appointed a Recorder in 2000 and authorised to sit as a High Court Judge in 2002 pursuant to the Senior Courts Act in 1981.
Sir Julian was appointed as a High Court Judge (Queen’s Bench Division, now King’s Bench Division) in 2007 and was the Presiding Judge of the Midland Circuit from 2010 to 2013. He was appointed a Legal Member of the Special Immigration Appeals Commission in 2013 and was the Judge in Charge of the Commercial Court from 2014 to 2015.
He was appointed a Lord Justice of Appeal and a Privy Counsellor in 2016, was the Lead Judge for International Relations from 2019 to 2021 and was appointed Supervising Lord Justice of the Commercial Court in 2020.
Sir Julian was appointed the Chancellor of the High Court in 2021.
