Senior Circuit Judge Retirement: Thomas
Her Honour Judge Sybil Thomas retires as a Senior Circuit Judge with effect from 29 November 2025.
Background information
Her Honour Judge Thomas was called to the Bar (Gray’s Inn) in 1976 and was elected as a Bencher in 2016. She was appointed an Assistant Recorder in 1993, a Recorder in 1997 and a Circuit Judge in 2005. She was the Deputy Chancellor of the Diocese of Lichfield from 2006 to 2020 and was a Member of the Equal Treatment Advisory Committee of the Judicial Studies Board (now Judicial College) from 2006 to 2010. She was a Criminal Course Tutor and a Tutor on the cross jurisdictional course, the Business of Judging, at the Judicial College from 2008 to 2014. She was authorised to sit as a High Court Judge in 2010 pursuant to the Senior Courts Act 1981 and was appointed a Senior Circuit Judge in 2014. She served as the Designated Family Judge for Birmingham from 2014 to 2025 and was a Family Course Tutor at the Judicial College from 2018 to 2025.
