AJC Panels

Advice Sector Panel

The Advice Sector Panel provides the Council with research and advice from the not-for-profit advice sector who have ground level experience of advising those who come into contact with the administrative justice system. The Advice Sector Panel has the following aims:

  • To identify and advise on the Council on issues affecting those who rely on the advice sector and legal aid practitioners for advice and representation
  • To advise the Council on issues affecting the advice sector
  • To provide suggestions for improvements to the administrative justice system
  • To liaise with other AJC panels, the steering group and the full Council
  • To share areas of best practice across the UK
  • To assist the AJC in making recommendations and proposals for reform

The membership consists of representatives from the not-for-profit advice sector and legal aid practitioners from across the UK.

The Advice Sector Panel commissioned Pro Bono Economics Unit to produce the report ‘The cost of not getting Personal Independent Payment decisions right the first time’, October 2021.


Academic Panel

The Academic Panel consists of lead academics in the field of administrative justice from across the UK. The panel identifies and provides research on areas in administrative justice and presents it to the Council.

The Academic Panel has the following aims:

  • To identify areas of administrative justice that are would benefit from research
  • To liaise with the other AJC panels, the steering group and the full Council
  • To share research undertaken by individual members of the panel
  • To arrange workshops and bring together stakeholders to discuss key issues
  • To promote and share the work of the AJC at academic conferences
  • To assist the AJC in making recommendations on proposals for reform
  • To promote collaboration and build networks for shared projects and grant applications
