I – Judicial Skills and Abilities Framework 2014
The Framework groups the essential skills under six headings. Each skill is further broken down into elements (in bullet point form) with additional elements and extended skills applicable to those in leadership and management roles. The articles are tagged to the six broad headings (numbered as below 1-6). Many of the articles are relevant across a number of judicial skills. Here we provide the headline skills. The Framework itself should be consulted to clarify the detailed expectations applying to your role.
- Assimilating and Clarifying Information
Quickly assimilates information to identify essential issues, develops a clear understanding and clarifies uncertainty through eliciting and exploring information.
- Working with Others
Conducts proceedings appropriately, values diversity and shows empathy and sensitivity in building relationships.
- Exercising Judgement
Demonstrates integrity and applies independence of mind to make incisive, fair and legally sound decisions.
- Possessing and Building Knowledge
Possesses a detailed knowledge of a relevant jurisdiction, law and practice and demonstrates an ability and willingness to learn and develop professionally.
- Managing Work Efficiently
Works effectively and plans to make the best use of resources available.
- Communicating Effectively
Demonstrates good oral and written skills and authority.
