Appointment of a new Senior and seven new Area Coroners
The Chief Coroner, His Honour Judge Thomas Teague QC, has welcomed the appointment of a new Senior Coroner and seven new Area Coroners in England and Wales. They are:
- Northumberland County Council, as the relevant authority, have appointed Andrew Hetherington as the senior coroner for the North Northumberland and South Northumberland coroner areas.
His appointment was made following an open competition and after receiving the consent of the Chief Coroner and Lord Chancellor. Andrew took up his new post in August 2020.
The appointment to two coroner areas is made on the basis that these areas are likely to be merged in due course (subject to a public consultation, the will of Parliament and the formal agreement of the respective local authorities). - Cambridgeshire County Council, as the relevant authority, have appointed Elizabeth Gray and Simon Milburn as area coroners for the Cambridgeshire and Peterborough coroner area.
Their appointment was made following an open competition and after receiving the consent of the Chief Coroner and Lord Chancellor. Elizabeth and Simon took up their new post in August 2020. - City of Stoke on Trent Council, as the relevant authority, have appointed Emma Serrano as area coroner for the Stoke on Trent and North Staffordshire coroner area.
Her appointment was made following an open competition and after receiving the consent of the Chief Coroner and Lord Chancellor. Emma took up her new post in October 2020. - Rhondda Cynon Taf County Borough Council, as the relevant authority, have appointed David Regan as area coroner for the South Wales Central coroner area.
His appointment was made following an open competition and after receiving the consent of the Chief Coroner and Lord Chancellor. David took up his new post in December 2020. - Essex County Council, as the relevant authority, have appointed Michelle Brown and Sean Horstead as area coroners for the Essex coroner area.
Their appointment was made following an open competition and after receiving the consent of the Chief Coroner and Lord Chancellor. Michelle and Sean took up their new post in February 2021. - Coventry City Council, as the relevant authority, have appointed Delroy Henry as area coroner for the Coventry and Warwickshire coroner area.
His appointment was made following an open competition and after receiving the consent of the Chief Coroner and Lord Chancellor. Delroy took up his new post in March 2021.
