The Queen has appointed Hina Rai to be a District Judge (Magistrates’ courts) on the advice of the Lord Chancellor, the Right Honourable Robert Buckland QC MP and the Lord Chief Justice of England and Wales, the Right Honourable The Lord Burnett of Maldon.  

The Lord Chief Justice has deployed her to the South Eastern Circuit, based at Croydon Magistrates’ Court with effect from 17 February 2020.

Hina Rai, aged 41, will be known as District Judge (Magistrates’ courts) Rai. She was admitted to the Roll in 2005 and was called to the Bar (M) in 2016. She was appointed as a Judge of the First-tier Tribunal, assigned to the Immigration and Asylum Chamber in 2018 and as a Deputy District Judge (Magistrates’ courts) in 2019. She also served as a Chairman of the Valuation Tribunal from 2016 to 2018.
