High Court Judge Appointment

The Queen has been pleased to approve the appointment of a Justice of the High Court. The appointment will take effect from 13 January 2020. It is anticipated that a further two appointments will be announced in the coming months.

The candidate approved as a High Court Judge is Michael Fordham QC.

This appointment will fill a vacancy in the High Court following elevations to the Court of Appeal and confirmed retirements.

Michael Fordham QC

Michael John Fordham QC, aged 54 will be known as The Honourable Mr Justice Fordham. He was Called to the Bar (G) in 1990 and took Silk in 2006. He was appointed as a Civil Recorder in 2010 and as a Criminal Recorder in 2012. He was a Deputy Judge of the Upper Tribunal between 2012 and 2018 and was authorised to act as a Judge of the High Court under s9(1) to hear cases in the Queen’s Bench Division in 2013.

He will take up appointment on 13 January 2020 consequential to the elevation of Mr Justice Phillips.

The Lord Chief Justice will assign Michael Fordham QC to the Queen’s Bench Division.
