High Court Judge Appointments

The Queen has been pleased to approve the appointment of two Justices of the High Court. These appointments will take effect from 2 December 2019. It is anticipated that a further four appointments will be announced in the coming months.

The candidates approved as High Court Judges are Andrew Henshaw QC and Amanda Tipples QC.

These appointments will fill vacancies in the High Court following elevations to the Court of Appeal and confirmed retirements. Andrew Henshaw QC

Andrew Raywood Henshaw QC, aged 57 will be known as The Honourable Mr Justice Henshaw. He was admitted as a Solicitor in 1986, was Called to the Bar (I) in 2000 and took Silk in 2013. He was appointed as a Deputy High Court Judge sitting in the High Court Queens Bench Division in 2017.

He will take up appointment on 2 December 2019 consequential to the elevation of Mrs Justice Simler.

The Lord Chief Justice will assign Andrew Henshaw QC to the Queen’s Bench Division.

Amanda Tipples QC

Amanda Jane Tipples QC, aged 52 will be known as The Honourable Mrs Justice Tipples. She was Called to the Bar (G) in 1991 and took Silk in 2011. She was appointed as a Recorder in 2009 and was authorised to act as a Judge of the High Court under s9(1) to hear cases in the Chancery Division in 2013.

She will take up appointment on 2 December 2019 consequential to the retirement of Mr Justice Walker.

The Lord Chief Justice will assign Amanda Tipples QC to the Queen’s Bench Division.
