High Court Judge Appointments

The Queen has been pleased to approve the appointment of five Justices of the High Court. The appointments will take effect from 1 October 2018. It is anticipated that a further five appointments will be announced in the coming months.

The five candidates approved as High Court Judges are Sarah Falk, Judith Farbey QC, Edward Murray, Her Honour Judge Johannah Cutts QC and His Honour Judge David Waksman QC.

These appointments will fill vacancies in the High Court following elevations to the Court of Appeal and confirmed retirements. Appointments

Sarah Falk

Sarah Falk aged 56 will be known as The Honourable Mrs Justice Falk. She was admitted as a Solicitor in 1986. She was appointed as a Fee-paid Deputy Judge of the Upper Tribunal, Tax and Chancery Chamber in 2015. She will take up appointment on 1 October 2018 consequential to the elevation of Lady Justice Asplin to the Court of Appeal.

The Lord Chief Justice will assign Sarah Falk to the Chancery Division.

Judith Sarah Farbey QC

Judith Sarah Farbey QC, aged 52 will be known as The Honourable Mrs Justice Farbey. She was Called to the Bar (M) in 1992 and took Silk in 2011. She was appointed as a Fee-paid Deputy Judge of the Upper Tribunal, Administrative Appeals Chamber in 2014 and as a Recorder in 2016. She will take up appointment on 1 October 2018 consequential to the retirement of Mr Justice Mitting.

The Lord Chief Justice will assign Judith Sarah Farbey QC to the Queen’s Bench Division.

Edward Henry Murray

Edward Henry Murray aged 60 will be known as The Honourable Mr Justice Murray. He was admitted as a Solicitor in 1992. He was appointed as a Recorder in 2009 and as a Deputy High Court Judge in 2013. He will take up appointment on 1 October 2018 consequential to the retirement of Mr Justice Globe.

The Lord Chief Justice will assign Edward Henry Murray to the Queen’s Bench Division.

Her Honour Judge Johannah Cutts QC

Her Honour Judge Johannah Cutts QC, aged 54 will be known as The Honourable Mrs Justice Cutts. She was Called to the Bar (I) in 1986 and took Silk in 2008. She was appointed as a Recorder in 2002, as a Circuit Judge in 2011 and as a Deputy High Court Judge sitting in the Court of Appeal Criminal Division in 2014. She will take up appointment on 1 October 2018 consequential to the retirement of Mr Justice Blair.

The Lord Chief Justice will assign Her Honour Judge Johannah Cutts QC to the Queen’s Bench Division.

His Honour Judge David Michael Waksman QC

David Michael Waksman QC, aged 60 will be known as The Honourable Mr Justice Waksman. He was called to the Bar (M) in 1982 and took Silk in 2002. He was appointed as a Recorder in 2001, he was authorised to sit as a Deputy High Court Judge in 2005 and was appointed a Specialist Circuit Judge in 2007. He will take up appointment on 1 October 2018 consequential to the retirement of Mr Justice Openshaw.

The Lord Chief Justice will assign His Honour Judge David Michael Waksman QC to the Queen’s Bench Division.
