Appointment of a High Court Judge: McKendrick KC

The Lady Chief Justice is delighted to welcome the appointment by His Majesty The King of John McKendrick KC to the High Court.

Mr Justice McKendrick will be assigned to the Family Division, where he will bring 25 years of experience as a barrister, and three years of judicial experience as a Deputy High Court Judge and Recorder, to his role.

This appointment will fill a vacancy in the High Court following elevations to the Court of Appeal and confirmed retirements.

Background

John McKendrick KC will be known as The Honourable Mr Justice McKendrick. He was called to the Bar (Inner Temple) in 1999 and took Silk in 2016. He was appointed as a Convener of the Additional Support Needs Tribunals for Scotland in 2010. He was also appointed as a Recorder in 2022 and as a Deputy High Court Judge in 2023.

He will take up appointment on 10 March 2025.
