Circuit Judge Appointment: Clews

The King has appointed Richard Clews to be a Circuit Judge on the advice of the Lord Chancellor, the Right Honourable Shabana Mahmood MP, and the Lady Chief Justice of England and Wales, the Right Honourable the Baroness Carr of Walton-on-the-Hill. 

The Lady Chief Justice has deployed him to the North Eastern Circuit, based at Teesside Combined Court Centre, with effect from 18 November 2024. 

Background Information 

 
Richard Clews will be known as His Honour Judge Clews. He was called to the Bar (Gray’s Inn) in 1986. He was appointed as a Deputy District Judge (Magistrates’ Courts) in 2006 and as a District Judge (Magistrates’ Courts) in 2016.
